“I coach to see people thrive and celebrated.” – Charles Lee

Name: Charles Lee

Coaching Specialization: Leadership and Team Coaching at the intersection of change leadership, complex contexts and thriving human systems

Coach Training Program: Co-Active Training Institute’s Coach Training Program

Why you became a coach: I coach to see people thrive and celebrated. Early inspirations for becoming a coach include my first coach and working at an ICF International Prism Award-winning organization.

Favourite coaching book: Co-Active Coaching: The Proven Framework for Transformative Conversations at Work and in Life by Karen Kimsey-House et al. It was my first coaching book, and on the inside cover are the signatures of coaches who have inspired me.

Your happy place: In conversation, deep in thought, on a run, holding an asana, with my family, and witnessing joy.

Punctuation mark that best represents your personality and why? The ampersand (&). Connector. Integrator. Systems thinker. Community builder. Leading from the side. Inclusive. Growth mindset. Playful. These are all important and meaningful to me.

3 words friends would use to describe you: Calm. Thoughtful. Leaving it to the community to fill in the third!

Advice to a new coach: Coach, be coached, learn alongside peers, and fold theory into practice and practice into theory. As Harrison Owen wrote about practicing Open Space, “Open Space is rather like swimming. You can read all the books and talk until you are hoarse, but to do the job, you’ve just got to get in the water”. It’s an appropriate statement as well about coaching.
