“What a Buzz” – Building the CoachingWise Community of Practice: Mastermind Day

Since the successful launch of CoachingWise in May 2015, ICF Vancouver has grown the number of designated organizations from seven to 14; and been instrumental in helping to form and expand a growing Community of Practice (CoP).

To continue building value for CoachingWise organizations, who are members of this unique community of organizations committed to building and sustaining a coaching culture, a CoachingWise Mastermind day was held this March in a wonderful working space on the 24th floor of TELUS Garden in downtown Vancouver.

 

Joining me to create and co-facilitate the session were two outstanding ICF Vancouver Chapter coaches:  Tana Heminsley, 2016 Coach Impact Award winner and Founder of Authentic Leadership Global, and Martha Sales, Founder of Achieve Your Mark and Associate Faculty at Royal Roads University.

 

Creating the Buzz

The day was devoted to exploring and expanding best practice with some of BC’s leading employers across the Hospitality, Health, Education, Telecommunications, Real Estate and Non-Profit Sectors. In attendance were representatives from BCAA, David Suzuki Foundation, Island Health, JOEY Restaurants, Macdonald Realty, Providence Health Care, TELUS and UBC.

Hopes – Wishes – Expectations for the day included:

  • “new ways to nurture our coaching culture”
  • “learning from others journey to build a coaching culture”
  • “one new idea to take back and implement”
  • “Clarity about how we can all benefit from the CoachingWise CoP”
  • “connection with peers and consensus on themes to take a deep dive into for the next session”
  • “ideas to steal shamelessly!”

 

 

 

 

What inspires them about CoachingWise:

  • “ripple effect in society”
  • “the global potential”
  • “recognition for organizations and the validation for coaching with senior people”
  • “Fills a gap between ‘nothing’ and Prism”
  • “Formalized structure to bring together like-minded people”
  • “Creating connections with other organizations”
  • “seasoned and newbies together to share and grow / opens mentorships”

 

 

What opportunities that CoachingWise creates for their organizations:

  • “forces us to calculate ROI”
  • “validates coaching – moves from ‘fluffy’ to real”
  • “Creating new opportunities to solve problems”
  • “attraction of talent / retention of top talent”
  • “promotes expansion of coaching within the organization”
  • “third party endorsement”
  • “recognition in the community that we are doing something”

 

 


Additional Background

The intent behind the CoachingWise Community of Practice has always been to add value to designated organizations; to be a place where theory and practice intersect, where organizations can find ideas on how impact and change their organization’s culture through coaching skills development.

 

 

 

From an ICF perspective, CoachingWise and the Community of Practice is a way to raise awareness of the value of coaching across business and not-for-profit organizations, and to embed coaching as an integral part of society by recognizing and celebrating best practice within CoachingWise organizations.
